Week 22
Week 22 Update:
The crew continued laying 16″ water main and 8″ sanitary sewer near Webster Street. The 8-inch sanitary was constructed up the hill towards Muskegon Avenue to service the properties south of Spring Street. To date, approximately 95% of the sanitary sewer is in the ground with just a short stretch remaining to the south on Webster Street and then only testing will remain. The Contractor must perform mandrel testing 30-days after placement to ensure the sewer has kept its circular form and capacity as well as pressure testing to ensure no leakage or infiltration.
The storm sewer work at Webster Street has been slow-going due to the current water levels in Ryerson Creek. Although considerably better than last year, the water levels have presented problems with the pumps and dewatering equipment being able to keep up. The Contractor was able to get the furthest downstream storm manhole installed this past week.
Crews also continued removals of the existing concrete box sewer which has been quite the process due to how it was originally constructed. The 1-inch rebar utilized in the box must be sawcut to adequately break the sewer into sections so that it can be removed from the site. As mentioned in previous updates, the box sewer was sitting on timber piles which kept the sewer in place as the roadway settled above it.
