Week 15 & 16 Updates

Work Completed Week of August 16 & August 23:

The Contractor has completed all of the underground utility work on the north side of the roadway.  This work consisted primarily of construction of new storm sewer and drainage structure installation.  Tree removals also took place to accommodate both underground utility work and the proposed 8-foot concrete sidewalks proposed on the north side of the roadway.

The Contractor began preparation work for the aggregate base course.  Working from Henry Street to the west towards Park Street, the Contractor graded the roadway and placed 10-inches of aggregate base course which will support the new roadway.   The last of the light pole foundations were also constructed.

Work Upcoming the Week of August 30:

The Contractor is anticipating the straight line concrete curb and gutter will be constructed on Friday, September 3.  We anticipate the concrete subcontractor will need to be back on site at least three (3) additional times to complete the driveway curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, and concrete pads.

Access will be maintained to all businesses by utilizing part width driveway construction.

Week 14 Update

Work completed the Week of August 9:

The traffic control plan was modified on Saturday to now allow EB traffic to pass through the work zone.  WB traffic is now being detoured around the work zone via Norton Avenue and Henry Street.  Due to heavy rainfall at the end of last week, the paving contractor was on site Monday morning to complete the asphalt paving of the commercial driveways on the south side of the roadway.

The prime contractor began pavement and curb removals on the north side of the roadway early in the week and began utility work thereafter.  Utility work includes all remaining storm sewer work and replacement of the sanitary sewer laterals to each individual property.

Work upcoming the Week of August 16:

The Contractor will continue with remaining storm sewer and sanitary sewer lateral work early in the week with expected completion by the end of the day Tuesday.  The remaining part of the week will be spent building the roadway base starting at Henry Street and working easterly towards Park Street in preparation for concrete curb and gutter.

The project is on schedule with the anticipated open to traffic date in mid-September.

Week 13 Update

Work Completed the Week of August 2:

The base course of asphalt pavement was placed on Tuesday on the south side of the roadway and lawn restoration work was mostly completed by the end of the week.  The asphalt paving company was on site Thursday to get a head start on paving the commercial driveways.  They were also on site Friday morning but unfortunately got rained out around 10:00 am.  They intend to be back on Monday morning (weather pending) to complete the remaining paving of the driveways on the south side of the roadway.

Traffic Advisory:

The Contractor has flipped the traffic control as of Saturday (8/7) morning which will allow the south side (paved portion) to open to EB traffic and the north side (WB traffic) closure is in effect.  WB traffic will be detoured around the work zone via the same detour route via Norton Avenue and Henry Street.  Work on the WB lanes should proceed much quicker than the EB lanes given the water main work is now fully complete.

Due to the paving contractor getting ‘rained out’ on Friday – they will be back on site Monday.  EB traffic may experience intermittent disruptions as the Contractor completes this work but flagging personnel will be on site to control traffic.

Work upcoming the Week of August 9:

The paving contractor will be on site Monday morning to finish paving the commercial driveways on the south side of the roadway.  The Contractor will have flag control and personnel in place to direct traffic during these operations.

The Contractor will begin pavement removals on the north side of the roadway and construct storm sewer the remainder of the week.

Week 12 Update

Work Completed the Week of July 26:

BEI continued with restoration and fine grading of the aggregate base course in preparation of the base course of asphalt pavement.  The concrete Contractor was on site Friday and Saturday working to complete the remaining concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and ADA ramps.

Upcoming the Week of August 2:

We anticipate the base course of asphalt pavement will be placed on Tuesday on the south side of the roadway.  Once the main line roadway paving is completed, we anticipate the restoration work to be completed by the end of the week.  The paving company is expected to be back on site Friday morning to complete the paving of the driveways on the south side of the roadway.  The site furniture Contractor will also be on site to place benches and bike racks.

The Contractor will be flipping the traffic control at the end of the day Friday which will allow the south side (paved portion) to open to EB traffic and the north side (WB traffic) closure will occur.  WB traffic will be detoured around the work zone via the same detour route via Norton Avenue and Henry Street.  Work on the WB lanes should proceed much quicker than the EB lanes given the water main work is now fully complete.

Week 11 Update

Work Completed the Week of July 19:

The concrete Contractor was on site Monday to place the first phase of concrete curb and gutter utilizing a curb machine.  The concrete will be constructed in phases to allow the concrete time to cure while still maintaining access to local businesses and side streets.  BEI simultaneously began restoration work by placing sand behind the curb and gutter in preparation of concrete sidewalk.  The Contractor made their final two water main connections on Tuesday at Park Street and Tanglwood Drive and the new water main was now fully operational.  The existing water main will ultimately be abandoned and filled with flowable fill.  BEI continued with aggregate base fine grading and preparation work for concrete sidewalk placement.  The concrete Contractor was back on site Friday and Saturday constructing most of the remaining curb and gutter and begin with placement of concrete sidewalk.

Upcoming the Week of July 26:

BEI will continue with restoration and fine grading of the aggregate base course.  The concrete Contractor is scheduled to be back for the final time (for work on the south side of the roadway) and will complete the remaining concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and ADA ramps.  We anticipate the base course of asphalt pavement will be placed as early as Wednesday.  Once the paving is completed, we anticipate the restoration work to be completed in the week following before the south side is open to EB traffic and the north side (WB traffic) closure will occur.

Week 10 Update

Work Completed the Week of July 12:

BEI began connecting remaining water services off the old water main and connecting them to the new water main this week.  The Contractor then turned their attention to preparing for placement of concrete curb and gutter by grading the aggregate base course.

Upcoming the Week of July 19:

The concrete Contractor will be on site Monday to place the first phase of concrete curb and gutter utilizing a curb machine.  The concrete must be constructed in phases to allow the concrete time to cure while still maintaining access to local businesses and side streets.  BEI will also begin preparation work by placing sand behind the curb and gutter in preparation of concrete sidewalk.  The Contractor intends to make their final water main connection on Tuesday and the new water main will be fully operational.  The existing water main will be abandoned and filled with flowable fill.  BEI will continue with aggregate base fine grading and preparation work for concrete sidewalk placement.  The intent is for the concrete Contractor to be back on site later in the week to place the remaining curb and gutter, sidewalk, and sidewalk ADA ramps.

Week 9 Update

Work Completed the Week of July 5:

The short holiday week began with crews from BEI mainly working on roadway grading in anticipation of completing the water main work later that week.  The Contractor received notice of a passing bacterial test for the water main early in the week.  The project team met on site to discuss how water main connections from the new water main to the existing water main would be completed without significant interruption to water service for the busy commercial corridor.  Ultimately, it was decided to complete the water main connections on Thursday night, beginning at 10:00 pm with three (3) different pipe crews, and working through the night and completing this work by Friday morning at 8:00 am.  The crews were able to successfully make the connections to the existing water main at four (4) different locations.  Due to this overnight work, the crews did not work during the daytime hours on Friday.

Upcoming the Week of July 12:

BEI will begin connecting remaining water services off the old water main and connecting them to the new water main this week.  The final connection to the existing water main near Park Street may also take place later this week and will culminate the remaining water main work.  Following completion of the water main work, BEI will turn focus to building back the EB lanes with aggregate base ahead of concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk work.

Advisory for July 8th & 9th

Beginning Thursday evening, July 8th, at approximately 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. on July 9th, construction crews will be performing multiple water main connections of the new water main to the existing system along Seminole Road between Henry Street and Park Street.  Water system users in this corridor may experience short term outages.

The work is being conducted during this timeframe to avoid major disruptions to homes and businesses during normal business hours.

Week 8

Work Completed the Week of June 28:

The Contractor (BEI) focused on water main testing at the beginning of the week.  The pressure testing of the water main passed without any issues.  We are currently awaiting results of the bacteriological testing of the new water main so that final connections can be completed.

The remainder of the week BEI began preparing the roadway for surface restoration, including concrete curb and gutter and asphalt paving.

Upcoming the Week of July 5:

Due to the heavy commercial corridor of this area, BEI is tentatively intending to make final water main connections overnight (10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) on Thursday night into Friday morning to avoid any potential disruptions to water service for this area.  This is tentative and contingent upon passing bacterial testing.

Week 7 Update

Work Completed the Week of June 21:

The Contractor (BEI) continued with water main installation.  The primary work focused on installing the connections across the WB lanes of traffic to accommodate new fire hydrants and connections to existing mains.  The work involved shifting traffic over into the EB lanes on temporary road surfaces to accommodate local traffic.

BEI’s subconsultant J Ranck Electric was also on site installing concrete foundations throughout the project limits in preparation of light pole installation which will occur much later in the project (due to material shortages).

Work Upcoming the Week of June 28:

BEI will pressure test the water main, chlorinate, and perform bacteriological sampling to ensure the water is adequate to make final connections to the existing water main and begin the process of connecting private service leads to the new water main.

While that testing is occurring, BEI will begin the process of excavating the roadway in preparation of concrete curb and gutter and surface restoration items.
